Part of the family (01-04-21)

A Reading

But to all who believed in him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn – not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. (John 1: 12)

For you are all children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. (Galatians 3:26)

A Thought

I hold a Tesco Clubcard, and shopping at Tesco has recently become much more exciting than previously. A range of products now exhibit a bright yellow label, which identifies a reduced product price which is available only to holders of a Tesco Clubcard.

These conspicuous and tangible benefits make me feel somewhat special. It resonates with the hopes that were present when I first signed up to become a Tesco Clubcard holder. Being a Clubcard holder, I feel part of the Tesco family and recognise my associated responsibilities. So, I am conscious to observe social distancing practices throughout the store, until my opportunity arrives proudly to brandish my Tesco Clubcard at the checkout.

In spite of the eggs-clusive Easter Clubcard deals that continue even today to reach my inbox, there is a much better way to make the most of our earthly activities.

Belief in the true identity of Jesus Christ provides membership of something far greater. For it is through faith in Jesus Christ that we are adopted into the family of God.

As a child of God, we can feel special every day, and enjoy the inner peace that comes from the promise of salvation and eternal life. Each day we can embrace guidance from the Holy Spirit, incorporating the needs of others into our daily behaviours.

When we congregate with others, we can feel proud to brandish our Christian faith as the reason for our broad smiles. No membership card is required. Just ask Jesus to be in your life.

A Prayer

Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God.

Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.

Please forgive me.

I receive You now as my Saviour and Lord.

Please make me a child of God.

Amen
