Bell Ringing
The Scaldwell bellringers can now call themselves proper bellringers!
Learning to ‘play’ the heaviest of musical instruments in the world can be a challenge and takes a long time. The ringers who ring at Scaldwell and Walgrave and who live in the villages throughout the benefice, have now progressed from ‘beginners’ to being ‘improvers’, and we hope you have noticed the difference.
We have found help and support from experienced ringers living in the area and are now making great progress both within the band and giving support and tuition to bellringers from other towers. Most of the band are members of the Guilsborough Branch of the Peterborough Diocesan Guild of Church Bellringers.
Elaine Greatrex has taken on the job of “Chairman” of the branch and recent bellringing recruit Fiona Barclay has joined the committee. This has meant the bellringers who join in with the branch activities have a wider circle of colleagues to practice their art with and enjoy a wide circle of friendship throughout the county and beyond. Elaine is also a very active member of the Association of Ringing Teachers, which enables a high standard of teaching to be undertaken by a fully qualified teacher.
