A Reading
But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armour of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation. (1 Thessalonians 5: 8)
A Thought
On Saturday I received an email from John Lewis highlighting savings of up to 70% in a clearance sale. It certainly grabbed my attention. The following day I remembered my need for some new polo shirts. After intense discussions regarding relevant men’s wear sizing, I brought my wardrobe-adviser alongside, ranked suitable shirts (lowest prices first) and selected some items for purchase.
My basket wanted to add a delivery charge to the order. ‘That’s because you haven’t bought enough!’ explained my financial advisor. ‘The more you buy, the more you save!’ echoed the household. So I purchased a few more shirts and a fedora. Delivery is now free. Overall, I have saved a lot!
The journey to faith may be similar.
Eternal life is certainly something to grab our attention and desire, but for many it also needs to fit into our current lifestyles.
Looking at the available pathways to eternal life, we sort them with the easiest first. At the bottom of the list is joining an order of monks, whilst at the top of the list is seeking guidance from a Christian friend who has faith. That friend will guide us through the trappings of religious church to the simple and true faith in Jesus Christ. Deliverance is free.
Jesus wants to save a lot, but he needs help. We are his disciples, the models in the catalogue of life. The more we live our lives with Jesus, full of joy and compassion, the more others will select us for guidance in their search for eternal life.
The more we live, the more we save!
A Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to live the life that we as Christians now expect of ourselves,
to be a true beacon for eternal life within our community,
and to draw others to you.
Amen
