A Reading
I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look! God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.’ (Revelation 21: 3-4)
A Thought
For the last three weeks we have been enjoying our introductory offer from Hello Fresh. Each week we pre-order mains dishes from an attractive menu, and a box arrives by courier.
The box contains all the required ingredients, separated into the required measures, and packaged together for each meal separately. No need for shopping lists, no futile hunts for absent ingredients, and no requirement to weigh anything.
The accompanying instructions are clear and structured, with pictures to guide what it should look like at each stage.
The results have been an outstanding success, and we no longer need to cower in front of episodes of Master Chef. Our nominated chef for the evening can safely anticipate gushing comments of appreciation.
It occurs to me that the Bible provides a similar and convenient diet for our daily salvation.
The Old Testament laws and prophecies list all the ingredients necessary for God’s redemption of mankind. We need look no further than Jesus Christ for our next steps.
Jesus provides simple instructions (faith and repentance) on how we can secure our entry into the Kingdom of heaven, and clear examples (parables) of how we should combine the ingredients along the way into the way we treat others.
The final chapter (Revelations) provides a picture of our resulting life in heaven. We look forward with eager anticipation to join with Him and eat at His table.
A Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus
Thank you that you have opened the gates of heaven to all who believe.
May we be successful advocates to all of Your simple invitation to Your table.
Amen
