Bible Readings

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! (2 Corinthians 5:17)

You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. (Matthew 5:14-15)

Thought

What is your favourite colour? There are so many to choose from. Are you drawn to cool and calming pastel colours or is it bright, bold and vibrant colours that you are drawn to? It might be that your favourite colour is not fixed but changes according to your mood or situation. My favourite colour is green. Anyone who has been in my house will be aware that nearly every room in the house has some element of green in it, either the paint on the walls or the carpet under your feet or the placemats that you put your drinks on, many are different shades of green. If I had to select just one shade of green I would probably lean towards lime, that fresh bright colour always lifts my mood.

Spring is a delightful season of the year because of the amount of fresh green that we are surrounded by. In the garden or around our villages new leaves have been appearing on the trees for some time now and they come in many amazing shades of green, yellow and red. There is something so wonderful about when the sun shines through these fresh new leaves making them glow. I have sometimes stopped on my daily walk just to look at how the leaves are glowing in the sunshine.

These leaves remind me that in Christ we are made new, we are new creations, just like the leaves on the trees are, and when the light of Christ shines through us we become lights in this dark world, we have the ability to glow to those around us.

As a small child I remember singing ‘Jesus bids us shine with a clear pure light, like a little candle burning in the night; in the world is darkness, so we must shine, you in your small corner and I in mine’. Our corners of the world may seem very small at the moment, but like a candle or a fresh leaf with the sun shining through it we can still shine.

Prayer

Loving Heavenly Father, we thank you that through the resurrection of your son Jesus we are made new. We ask that the love of Christ shine through us in our current situation, wherever we find ourselves at this time. May we be light to those around us.

Amen
